What You Can Do

Substance use and abuse is a significant problem.

You can help.

  • Ask women non-judgmentally about drug use, including prescription medications.
  • Know the signs of drug withdrawal in infants.
  • Use the Resources.
  • Select an appropriate neonatal abstinence scoring tool when necessary.
  • Work with others in your community to identify resources for women. If you know of any resources, please complete this form. We will forward the information to the MCH Hotline.
  • Work with others in your community to promote a seamless care system for women and their infants.
  • Understand the stigma associated with drug use and the challenges faced by women with drug addiction.
  • Support women who seek help for addiction.
